Concept
Our team set out to create a fun, puzzle-like, device that would encourage strangers to interact in public spaces. Jukebox Gearo is a musical puzzle that invites social play. swap out record-like planetary gears as they spin on the table. Each gear triggers a note to play. If you get the right combination of notes, it plays a popular song. See it working.
Development
We started with basic sketches, then created several CAD models in Fusion 360. Our team wanted to make something that looks modern but playful. The form was inspired by 50’s car fins, mid-century furniture, and polaroid cameras. Other design features include space for song cards to be viewed at multiple angles, and a coupling on the sun gear which acts as a fail safe for the spinning mechanism. My contributions included helping to design the form, CAD modeling, and fabricating the housing and gear mechanism.
