This was a Graduate Studio project at Georgia Tech. I worked with King of Pops to design a new concept for loading and unloading carts into their pickup trucks.
Field Research
The paleta carts currently being used weigh up to 87 LBS, empty. To top that off, KOP venders or “Pop Slingers“ have adopted various means of loading and unloading into the company pickup trucks. In this example, using motorcycle ramps.
Development
I sketched and created cardboard models to arrive at the final solution of a modular cart design.
Final Concept
The modular cart design retains the brand image, yet breaks down into sections that weigh no more than 50 LBS, even when fully loaded with pops. The mockup below is made to the approximate dimensions, which helped us to estimate the weight of materials such as insulating foam, fiberglass, and steel.
