Case-Mate Cooler Tote
Case-Mate is expanding from phone cases to affordable fashion bags, packing cubes, and accessories. We chose make a statement by dropping an eye catching cooler, inspired by hand bags.
Current state of coolers
Soft coolers often feature matte textures, soft colors, waterproof zippers, and Molly loops; A design language that says,”your refreshments are safe and cool”. To join the cooler space, Case-Mate understood their audience wants a cooler that doesn’t look like one.
Drawing from the Fashion Industry
We drew inspiration from luxtury handbags to inform the new cooler shape. The basket bag shape emerged as an ideal form factor for a statement cooler.
Development
Once the team was happy with sketches and paper prototypes, I used CAD to create a form that could be unrolled into sewing patterns.
The Case-Mate Cooler Tote has a molded silione base, TPE sides, and 1/2” insulating foam. It can keep contents below 40°F for up to 20 hours. It fits up to two dozen cans, or six wine bottles.
